Biscoe- Billie Grey Dunn Shirlen, age 79, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2021, at Pinehurst Health & Rehabilitation in Pinehurst.
Mrs. Shirlen was born in Montgomery County on September 7, 1942, to Raleigh E. and Josie Davis Dunn, Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Star.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Hicks and Linda Coleman; her brother, Raleigh Dunn Jr.
Her love for her family was immeasurable. She was a reflection of God’s love through her singing and God’s Word. She lived the meaning of the cross. She always thought of others first and was a true prayer warrior. She was a faithful Christian who served the Lord as a loving pastor’s wife.
She is survived by her loving husband Jimmy C. Shirlen of 59 years; daughter, Cynthia S. Hunsucker (Jeff) of Troy; and son, Timothy E. Shirlen (Amy) of Monroe; grandchildren, Justin Shirlen (Courtney) of Indian Trail; Brittany Shirlen of Monroe; and Brent Hunsucker of Troy; and one great granddaughter, Amanda Grace Shirlen. A special niece, Lorie Coleman Benardella of Moorestown, NJ who was like her daughter.
Special thanks to Noreen Krick, RN; Lauren Morgan, RN; Ursula Spinks, RN; and Emily, Hospice aide at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst for their wonderful care and compassion in Billie’s last days.
Visitation will be held at 2:00- 3:45 pm prior to the service on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Phillips Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 16,2021 at 4:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Star with Bro. Tim Cross officiating. Interment to follow at Biscoe Cemetery. All attendees are asked to wear a mask or another form of face covering, and please practice social distancing when possible.
