Star - Billy Don Sheffield, 79, of 225 Kanoy Street, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 31, 2013, at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Old New Hope Cemetery. Mr. Sheffield was born in Montgomery County to Ira Spencer and Ina Davis Sheffield. He was a retired hosiery mill employee and served 20 years as a volunteer fireman with the Star Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Frances Dunn Sheffield, of the home; daughters, Debra Lynthacum of Candor, Beth Roy of Tabor City; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
