Star Carlis Griffin Bennett, 81, of 177 New Hope Church Road, Star, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at FirstHealth Moore Regional. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, September 27, at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Davis officiating. Mr. Bennett was born in Montgomery County to Zach and Rosa Jackson Bennett. He worked for Southern Airways, flew for Winn Dixie Aviation, and was a captain with Eastern Airlines where he retired after twenty years of service. He and his wife also served as fixed-base operators for Star Airport and Asheboro Municipal Airport. Mr. Bennett was a member of Biscoe Masonic Lodge # 437 A.F. & A.M. and the Oasis Shriner Temple. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served in the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth C. Bennett, of the home; three daughters, Cynthia Freeman and husband, Clinton, of Biscoe, Cyndria Spivey and husband, Robert, of Biscoe, and Celia Brown of Siler City; one son, Robert "Von" Bennett and wife, Cindy, of Star; nephew and niece who lived locally, Jasper Hursey and wife, Dianne, Rosa Haywood and husband, Ernest; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. No visitation is planned. Graveside Service: 2:00 pm, Friday, September 27, New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Star
