Cloves Lee Hare, 93, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at Randolph Hospital, surrounded by his favorite (and only) son, Ronnie, and daughter-in-law, Emily. He was born on December 11, 1932, in Moore County, North Carolina, to the late Numa and Nancy Davis Hare.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Aileen Hare; his sisters, Grace Yow, Nellie Marsh, Rachel Hussey, and Otta Hussey; and his brothers, Graham Hare, James Hare, Jesse Hare, Fred Hare, and Wade Hare. He is survived by his son, Ronnie Lee Hare (Emily), along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
Cloves proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a faithful member of Asbury Baptist Church and carried his faith with him throughout his life.
He spent more than 30 years working at Burlington Industries, formerly Klopman Mills, where he worked his way up to a long tenure of supervising in the weave room before retiring.
After leaving Burlington Industries, he turned his attention to his welding shop. What started as retirement work became another chapter of his life, spanning more than 40 years. He built trailers, completed custom welding projects, and earned a reputation for quality workmanship that brought customers throughout the Grantville community back again and again. He continued welding well into his 80s, taking pride in every project that left the shop. In later years, the work slowed, but the friendships never did.
As the years passed, the shop remained the center of his daily routine. He faithfully kept his Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday schedule, spending time with the many friends who stopped by to visit. His custom-built wood heater in the corner was almost as well known as he was, keeping the shop downright toasty through the winter months. Around that heater, stories were told, local news was discussed, gardening tips were shared, and friendships were strengthened. Between visits, he could often be found reading his Bible or catching up on the local newspaper.
At home in his later years Cloves took up baking himself and was not shy about sharing recipes or offering advice to other bakers. He became especially known among family, friends, neighbors, and fellow church members for his black walnut pound cakes and cornbread cakes, which were often requested and always enjoyed. Family, friends, neighbors, and church members all knew about his baking, and many were fortunate enough to leave with a cake from his kitchen. Sharing food was just another way he showed care for the people around him, and many will remember him through the cakes he baked and generously shared.
For those who knew him, his welding shop was more than a workplace. It was a gathering place where friendships were built and maintained over many years. Whether you knew him through a welding project, a conversation around the wood heater in his shop, a discussion about gardening, or one of his famous cornbread cakes, you likely left better than you came. Cloves will be remembered for his steadfast faith, strong work ethic, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those around him — and maybe for a slight stubborn streak as well.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 3:00PM at Asbury Baptist Church, 395 Asbury Church Road, Seagrove, NC.
