Candor - Doris Dorothy VunCannon Lamonds, 87, of Candor, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Sandy Ridge Assisted Living. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 7, 2014, at Faith Baptist Church, 2616 Candor-Troy Road, Candor, with Allen Brock officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Granny Doris was born in Montgomery County to Atlas Charles Lee and Maudie Cranford VunCannon. She was a retired hosiery mill worker and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Neil Lamonds; sons, Calvin, Jimmy, Johnny, Little Joe; granddaughter, Sharon Livingston; brothers, Taft and Charlie VunCannon; sisters, Bessie Pankey, Josephine VunCannon. She was a loving, wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family. She was affectionately known as "Granny Doris" to all who had the privilege to know her. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Lamonds of Troy, Janie Livingston of Candor, Dianne Lamonds of Candor; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 PM - 1:45 PM on Friday, March 7,at Faith Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215 or FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
