Dorothy D. Williams

Dorothy Deen Short Williams, 81 of Eagle Springs died, Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, after a prolonged illness with Alzheimers. A native of Moore County, Mrs. Williams was born in Highfalls to Charles Ross and Ella Lou Scott Short. She was raised there with her family, graduated from Highfalls School as Senior class Valedictorian. She furthered her education in High Point at Jones Business School, where she received an associate degree in Business. After her graduation she married Foster Williams of Eagle Springs. She was a business partner with her husband, a dedicated wife and mother of their six children. As an active member of Bensalem Presbyterian Church she was an elder, clerk of session, and on many committees. She received the Presbyterian Womens Honorary Lifetime Membership award for her invaluable service to the church. Her interest in the welfare of the community led her to participate on the Moore County Planning Board, the Regional Library Board, Precinct Judge for Board of Elections, and was active as a leader in 4-H club youth activities. Mrs. Williams and her husband were worldwide travelers. They followed Biblical Journeys and trekked into newly opened territories of the world, such as China. She shared her travel experiences with church groups and school children. Her interests included reading, gardening and inspiring learning for all generations. Her life served as a loving Christian model for her family and all who knew her. Surviving is her husband of 59 years, Foster Lee Williams. Children Michael Williams and wife Dot, Melody W. Connor, Lisa W. Alexander and husband Mark, all of Eagle Springs. Lydia W. Conard and husband David and Cynthia W. Leach of Foxfire Village. Scott Williams and wife Mary Catherine of Kinston, NC. Her sisters Ruby S. Fuller of Pinebluff, Shelby S. Phillips of Highfalls and brother Clarence Short and wife Leah also of Highfalls. Grandchildren are Trent and Trudy Williams, Travis Black, Bryan, Suzanne, and Patrick Leach, Myles and Brynn Connor, Ashley Alexander, Scott Julius and Grace Williams. Great grandchildren are Drew Gagliardi and Conner Leach. Visitation will be held Saturday, January 3rd from 6-8pm at Bensalem Presbyterian Church in Eagle Springs. A memorial service in her honor will be held Sunday, January 4th at 3pm, Bensalem Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, 5 Aviemore Drive, Pinehurst NC 28374 or to Bensalem Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 157, Eagle Springs NC 27242. Phillips Funeral Home of Star is assisting family.
