Troy - Elizabeth Vanhoy Phillips, 88, of Troy, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Autumn Care of Biscoe.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, February 2, at Southside Cemetery in Troy with the Rev. Steve Wilkinson officiating.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Montgomery County to David Sinclair and Viola Carter VanHoy and attended Barton Business College. She was an active member of Troy Presbyterian Church where she taught women's Sunday school and participated in the church choir. As a member of the Troy Chapter Order of the Eastern Star for 49 years, she served as Worthy Matron and for many years as secretary. She and her husband, Elbert, supported the Robin Sage activities in the county for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to different areas around the country, especially their trips to Alaska. Mrs. Phillips' places of employment included Montgomery Motors, Phillips Chain Saw Company, and the local NC License Agency.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert J. Phillips, Sr., her son, Elbert J. Phillips, Jr., and her granddaughter, Sheila Garrick.

Surviving are two daughters, Dinah Welch of Snow Camp and Norma Underwood of Troy; five grandchildren, Brant Phillips, Melonie Phillips, Jesse Kelley, Ronda Underwood, and Michael Underwood; eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, February 1, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
