Elizabeth Shamburger

Miss Elizabeth Shamburger, age 96, of 1719 Madison Avenue, Greensboro, NC died Friday, April 3, at her residence. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 6, at 11:00 am, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend David Foushee officiating. Miss Shamburger was the youngest of four daughters of Dr. John Shamburger and Christian Leach Shamburger. She graduated from UNC-Greensboro (formerly Women's College) with a bachelor and Master's degrees in Nutrition. She was a WWII veteran serving as a Captain in the US Army Nurse Corp in Italy. After the war, she worked in VA hospitals around the country as a dietician. She is survived by three cousins: George Sherrill of Raleigh, NC Virginia Sherrill of Largo, FL Van Shamburger of Richmond, VA Miss Shamburger's cremains will be buried beside her sisters' graves at Leach Cemetery in Star at a later date.
