Ella Greene Batten

Ella Greene Batten, age 90, of Biscoe, passed away on February 16, 2024 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

We have been lucky enough to have had the Greatest Christian mother who ever lived, to love us and guide us through life. She always instilled in us to be goers and doers. She brought us up in church every time the doors were open, to be workers in the church, not just a bench warmer. Her and daddy were the best duo. Mama played the guitar, and they sang beautifully together. She taught Phyllis and Ricky to play the guitar also. She had all her daughters singing for the Lord in church as a group. Later Mama and Lisa made a beautiful trio with a longtime friend, Judy Bean. Traveling was a true love anywhere and with anyone who had an available seat. Her middle name was "Go". Excited for any adventure! What stories we could all tell. Just a few of her favorite destinations were: Hawaii, which was her first flight, Yellow Stone, Custer State Park, the beach, the Amish country, and the mountains. She had many hobbies but her favorites included reading, fishing, shopping, crocheting and she loved eating out every Saturday with her daughter Louise.

She was vice president of the Good Olé Girls Bingo group and she loved to spend time at the Troy Senior Center with all her friends. At age 55 she went back to school and received her GED and went on to become an LPN, finishing in the top of her class. She worked at Autumn Care of Biscoe until her retirement and continued her love for patients as a volunteer until COVID in 2020. Ella was also an inspector for the Montgomery County's Community Advisor Committee. This lead up to her mission for helping cancer patients. She single handedly crocheted hundreds of care packages of lap blankets and hats for them. She couldn't have made it this far without her four legged love, Buster, her dog. He was always at her side. She loved the Batten Family Reunions. They all said, "what a woman, what a mom, what a grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother", who loved her family, the Lord, her faith, and her church." She will be greatly missed.

Ella was born on June 22, 1933, in Montgomery County to Adam Greene and Lucy Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jonah Batten; son, Ricky Batten; son in law, Darrell Hussey; and brother, Charles Greene.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Cornelison (Jerry) of Biscoe; Becky Hall (Richard) of Biscoe; Louise Hussey of Robbins; and Lisa Tedder (Steve) of Troy; and son, David Batten (Denise) of Asheboro. Sixteen grandchildren and thirty- three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. As well as her bonus sons, Jason and Chris Batten.
