Star – Elsie Mae (Granny) Caudill, 98, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Sandy Ridge Memory Care of Candor, just 3 days shy of her 99th birthday.
Elsie Mae was born June 6, 1918 in Montgomery County to the late Harris and Mae Lamonds Howell. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Troy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R. L. Caudill, Jr., 53, in 1972; brother, Charles Howell; sister, Elizabeth Kearns; and sons- in-law, J. David Baughn, Sr., S. Gene Hurley, C. Vance Richardson, and special nephew, Billy Kearns.
Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Sue Hurley, Dixie Baughn, Doris Richardson, Robert Caudill (Sherry), Charles Caudill (Brenda), Linda Furr (Darrell), and David Caudill (Teresa); 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with her 21st expected in August; sisters-in-law, Virginia Caudill Owens, Annie Mae Caudill Kerns, Jessie Mae Caudill, and special nephew, Gary Abbott (Janice).
Granny’s lifelong mission was to run Caudill Dairy with her boys. She loved cooking and never had an empty table, there was always room for one more mouth at her table. Granny’s sense of humor was contagious and she could tell a joke like no other. Her spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:50 am Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at First Wesleyan Church, 1368 NC Highway 134 W, Troy.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am at First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Dr. Edward Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow in Suggs Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Star.
