Jessie Martin Miller

Jessie Martin Miller, 96, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Hospice House in Pinehurst. Better known as "Ma" to all her family, church members, and friends, she lived life to the fullest, being a Christian role model to all who knew her. Jessie helped her husband, Charlie, in opening Miller's Hardware in Biscoe where she worked until she later opened the Miller Shop, a clothing store for women. She worked there until her retirement. She was very active in the Biscoe Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, worked faithfully with the Women of the Church, and was honored by receiving the Honorary Life Membership Award for Presbyterian Women, Presbyterian Church USA. She helped with delivering Meals on Wheels, and was a member of the Girls' Fellowship in Biscoe, a group of senior "girls" who met weekly for Bingo, food, and fun. Jessie was never without a joke to tell to lighten the mood for others. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Miller. She is survived by her three sons, Richard (Sue), Raymond (Jean), and Roger (Faye). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren (Richard Miller, Jr., Cynthia Townes, Carolyn Hinson, Amy Goodwin, Heather Griffin, Mark Miller, and Wendy Patterson), and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving caretaker, Thelma Bowden. Jessie had been a resident at Sandy Ridge Memory Care in Candor, NC, since July, and had grown to love many of those who so lovingly cared for her. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at the Biscoe Presbyterian Church in Biscoe at 2:00 pm, with visitation following in the church fellowship hall. Visitation at other times will be at the home of Roger Miller (307 Windsor Drive, Biscoe). Memorials may be made to Biscoe Presbyterian Church, PO Box 638, Biscoe, NC 27209.
