Jewel Mary Auman McKee, 86, of Seagrove, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Peak Resources in Charlotte.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church with elder David Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Jewel was born in Montgomery County on a “hot and muggy Sunday morning” (her words) August 25, 1929, to Gurnie Lester Auman and Elah Marie Davis Auman. She graduated from Star High School and attended King’s Business College in Charlotte. She had an incredible eye for color and shape, and worked for many years in the design department at Pinehurst Textiles in Asheboro. She was tough, independent and resourceful, managing her property by herself for 40 years, cutting her 3-acre lawn into her mid-80’s. She was also a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Lewis McKee; sisters, Marie Caudill and Treva Mattia; and brother, Newman Auman.
She is survived by her four sons, Dale L. McKee and wife Amy of Columbia, SC, Brent A. McKee and wife Becky of Chapel Hill, NC, Joel E. McKee and wife Cathy of Charlotte, NC, Craig A. McKee of Decatur, Ga, sister Faye A. Robinson and husband Garry of Midland, NC, grandchildren Megan McKee, Caitlin McKee, Daniel Powell, Carson McKee and Skylar McKee.
The family will receive friends immediately after the burial in the Pleasant Hill fellowship hall.
