Jewel Ward Singleton

Star - Jewel Ward Singleton, 91, of Star, died Thursday, April 10, 2014, at her daughter's home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Big Oak Church of God in Black Ankle, where she was a faithful member, with the Rev. Billy Ray Chriscoe and Rev. Chris Boyd officiating. Interment will be in Big Oak Church of God Cemetery. Mrs. Singleton was born in Morganton to Matthew and Annie Allen Ward. She was a retired hosiery mill employee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Singleton; five grandchildren. She is survived by five sons, Melvin Singleton (Susie) of Star, Elvin Singleton, of Star, Elmer Singleton (Barbara) of Asheboro, Delmer Singleton of Star, Ellis Singleton (Renee) of Star; five daughters, Earline Bledsoe of Kernersville, Evoyne Davis of Seagrove, Ellen Shields of Star, Helen Dorsett (Nathan) of Star, Alice Lewis (Pete) of Star, one brother, Ralph Ward of Ellerbe; 25 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: Big Oak Church of God, PO Box 511, Star, NC 27356.
