Jonah Edward Greene

Biscoe - Jonah Edward Greene, 97, of Biscoe, passed Friday, April 25, 2014, at his residence. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, Biscoe, where he was a faithful and active member, with the Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Interment will be at the Biscoe Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. After the interment, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Greene was born in Montgomery County to Benjamin Harrison and Annie McCallum Greene. During his working career, he owned and operated the Southern Grill and later Greene's Variety Store both located in Star. After he retired, he thoroughly enjoyed gardening, wood working, fishing, cooking for his family; was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and loved watching the "Andy Griffith Show". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Gail; brothers, Guy and Mack; and sister, Ida. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Helen Latham Greene, whom he adored; two daughters, Jenelle Greene of Raleigh, Genevieve Hinson and husband, James, of Vass; son, Eddie Greene and wife, Joan, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Kelly, Reagan, Shay, Rick; great-grandchildren, Harrison, Jonah, Cole, Abram, Lola, Brooke, Harper, Alice-Kate; brothers, Roy, W.B. "Bill"; sisters, Lena, Hazel, and Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church, Biscoe, PO Box 36 , Biscoe, NC 27209 or Betty Gail Greene Williams Scholarship, NC Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27609.
