Lawrence Irving Tate

Lawrence Irving Tate, age 94, of Star, peacefully passed away at home on December 14, 2023.

Lawrence was born on July 26, 1929, in Sylacauga, Alabama, to Willie and Edna Jackson Tate.

Lawrence served his country with pride as a member of the US Navy. Following his military service, he went on to become a manager at Lindsley Lumber. He enjoyed various hobbies such as traveling, farming, riding motorcycles, fishing, as well as spending time with his animals.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Frances Marie Clopton Tate and their daughter Frances Louise Waters.

He is survived by his daughters, Virginia Manning (Lee) of Benbrook, TX; Lee Tate Wright of Mt. Gilead; sons, Marion Cosper (Debbie) of Augusta, GA; Roddy Tate (Carol) of Howey-in-the-Hills, FL, and Curtis Tate of Fayetteville.  Grandchildren Bradley Wright, Tyler Wright, Nathaniel Cosper, Christopher Cosper, Jonathan Cosper, Michael Cosper, James Waters, Amanda Waters, Michael Manning, Richard Manning, and William Tate Jr. and thirty great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 pm. Reverend Nick Allen will officiate the service. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 pm. Following the service, Lawrence will be laid to rest at First Wesleyan Church in Troy with military rites by Randolph Honor Guard.
