Mamie Lynthacum Lewis

Ms. Mamie Lynthacum Lewis, age 92, of Autumn Care in Biscoe, left us and entered into her heavenly home on Thursday, April 16th. She was being cared for at FirstHealth Hospice at the time of her passing.

Ms. Mamie was born on December 2, 1933, in Montgomery County to Jesse and Bernice Lynthacum. She was blessed to have two brothers and three sisters to share her life with. She retired from Montgomery County Schools Food Service where she shared her passion for cooking. Her greatest joy was being able to cook for her family and friends. She always welcomed anyone to sit and enjoy a meal. She was a lifelong member of Community Baptist Church in Candor and attended regularly until her health declined.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Star at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tony Parsons and Tony Sedberry officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-1:45 pm.

A private burial will take place at a later time.

Mamie was preceded in death by her husband, David Lewis, her daughter Brenda Nelson, son-in-law Robert Nelson, along with her grandson, Grayson Fox who brought her so much joy. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Linda Strong and Zelma McNeill, along with her brothers Elvin and Melvin Lynthacum, as well as her parents.

Ms. Mamie is survived by her daughter Susan Fox (Graham) of Candor and her sister, Pearlie Macon of Sandy Ridge Nursing Home in Candor. Also left to honor her memory are many nieces and nephews and other family members that showed her so much love and support. She loved each of you dearly.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Grayson Fox Memorial Scholarship Fund at Samaritan Colony, 136 Samaritan Drive, Rockingham, NC 28379.

Mamie's family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Care in Biscoe for their compassionate care and their love throughout the years. You always went above and beyond your duties and it was appreciated.
