Biscoe - Oscar Lee Stevens, 90, of 207 Leach Street, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Stevens was born in Randolph County, November 24, 1920, to Arza and Zylphia Harrell Stevens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Arza Stevens, Jr., Harrell Stevens, Searl Stevens, Mangum Stevens, and sister, Carmel S. Melvin. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and retired as Utilities Superintendent with Town of Biscoe. Prior to his work with the Town, he owned and operated Stevens Exxon in Biscoe. He was an active member of Biscoe Presbyterian Church and retired from Biscoe Fire Department with 32 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Saunders Stevens, of the home, son, Gerald Stevens and wife, Judy, of Star; daughter, Beth Stevens Hursey and husband, Jerry, of Star. He was the beloved "Poppy" of 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Stevens of Asheboro, Gene Stevens of Star, Greg Stevens of Holden Beach, Renee Hursey Talbert and husband, Marty, of Sanford, and Phillip Hursey and wife, Katie, of Star; six great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jordan Cutler of Asheboro, Gabriel Stevens of Fort Stewart, GA, Mason and Sadie Talbert of Sanford, and Phinley Hursey of Star. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 30, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010, at 11:00 am at Biscoe Presbyterian Church in Biscoe officiated by Reverend Dr. Donald Mimbs and the Reverend Dr. Bruce Lax with internment at Biscoe Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 5 Aviemore Drive, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
