Mr. Samuel Franklin Sheffield Sr., 92, of Robbins, North Carolina, went to his heavenly home on July 15, 2026.
He was born on November 10, 1933, to Neil and Agnes Sheffield.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Genevieve Beauchamp Sheffield; his sons, Samuel F. Sheffield Jr. and Charles Neil Sheffield; his grandson, John Wayne Thompson; his great-grandson, David Sheffield; his great-great-grandson, Buddy Rice; his great-great-granddaughter, Xelina Villegas; his sister, Doris Pitts; and his brothers, Neil Sheffield Jr. and Wayne Sheffield.
Left to cherish Sam’s memory are his wife of 12 years, O’Dene Suggs-Sheffield; his children, Donald L. Sheffield (Anne) of High Point, Richard D. Sheffield of Robbins, Christine Mounts (David) of Trinity, and Robert V. Sheffield of Alpharetta, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, Dalan M. Sheffield (Diana), Timothy N. Sheffield (Jamie), Crystal Reece (Thomas), Kandy Reece (Kenneth), Zachary Sheffield (Naomi), Elizabeth Arey (Alex), Blake A. Sheffield, Brandt W. Sheffield, Jessica Rice (Nick), Samantha Thompson (Jimmy), and Charles Sheffield; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Sam is also survived by his sister, Sandra Joines (Buddy) of Asheboro; his stepson, Jeff Rhodes; his stepdaughter, Jeanine Edwards; numerous step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends, including Mark and Robbin Sheffield of Robbins.
Sam began his professional career in 1951, working alongside his father and older brother as a carpenter building houses for Hunter Dalton. The knowledge and experience he gained in construction carried him into a long and respected career in management, including service as a building inspector for the City of High Point and as a project manager for construction companies such as White, Samet, and Myrick.
A faithful member and Deacon of Dover Baptist Church, Sam taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the church choir. He also enjoyed coaching youth sports and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
The family will receive friends on July 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star, NC 27356.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 21, 2026, at Dover Baptist Church, 2527 Dover Church Road, Seagrove, NC 27341, with the Rev. Chris Lee and Rev. Bill Renolds officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, North Carolina. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
