Star - Gracie “Viola” McBride Lamonds, age 82, of US Hwy 220 N, passed away at home on Monday, September 4, 2017, and joined her husband, Guy, in heaven on their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Lamonds was born on October 18, 1934 in Stokes County. She was the youngest daughter of Cleve and Rosa Emma Brown McBride. She attended Star High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. She loved mowing her yard, reading, watching “her soaps” on TV, her dogs and grand dogs. She most enjoyed traveling the country with her family.

She married Guy Lamonds on September 4, 1957 and they farmed while she worked at Pine Hosiery Mills and Clayson Knitting until they started Lamonds Furniture in 1982. They have been the owners and operators of Lamonds Rentals since 1973.

She started attending Star Presbyterian Church in the early 60’s and joined the church in July 1968. She loved doing things at the church like Bible school, youth groups, Christmas programs, and Women’s Circle, where she was past moderator and served as an elder.

She was a member of the Halcyon Woman’s Club for more than 20 years. She was a founding member and the current president of the Star History Museum.

Her greatest joys were her daughters, Charlotte and Marsha, and her two granddaughters, Jessy and Macie Beth, and her two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Wyatt.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Eddie Epps; her brothers, Bill, Fletcher, Mutt, John, and Carlos McBride; and sister, Emma McBride Smith.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Lamonds of Star, Marsha (Stevan) Stanisic of Apex; granddaughters, Jessy (James Wayne) Brewer Richardson of Star, Macie Beth Epps of Star; great-granddaughter, Natalie Richardson, of Star; and great-grandson, Wyatt James Richardson, of Star.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street in Star.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 8, at 2:00 PM at Star Presbyterian Church, 101 Okeewemee Star Road, Star with Rev. Betsy Soto officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Star History Museum, PO Box 271, Star, NC 27356.
