Biscoe - Mrs. Virene Maddox Kissell, 98, of 105 Craven Street, died Monday, January 20, 2014, at Autumn Care of Biscoe. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 24, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Biscoe, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Wilson and Rev. Tom Bodkin officiating. Interment will be in Biscoe Cemetery. Mrs. Kissell was born in Weakley County, Tennessee to Coke F. and Pauline Webb Maddox. She was a lifetime teacher with Montgomery County Schools. She taught at Candor, Biscoe, and ended her career at East Montgomery High School. She was loved and respected by her students. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Henry Kissell, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Rick Kissell and wife, Judy, of Biscoe, Larry Kissell and wife, Tina, of Biscoe; sister, Valdean Joyner, of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Susan Atkinson and husband, Courtney, Beth Parker and husband, Matt, Jenny Gooch and husband, Garrett, Aspen Kissell; great-grandchildren, Marin, Sam, Henry, Owen, and Oliver. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star. Memorials may be made to the Raz Autry Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o North Carolina Community Foundation, 4601 Six Fork Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27609. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, January 24, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Biscoe, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Wilson and Rev. Tom Bodkin officiating. Interment will be in Biscoe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Thursday, January 23, 2014, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star.
